I have a sneaking suspicion this might be your favorite bathroom in the house (and there will be no hard feelings:) While I love our primary bath so much (and prefer it for our daily use), this hidden bathroom Is admittedly very special and the colors, patterns, and layers made for such pretty photos (thank you, Kaitlin). It’s a little jewel box of green and pink, full of vintage, and shiny polished nickel. It looks totally original (but fresh and new) and is just sweet as can be. I got to play out a fantasy here (as you should in a guest bath) and every time I walk in I’m like “OH THIS IS WONDERFUL”. All of the polished nickel plumbing fixtures and lighting were selected from Rejuvenation and that shiny pretty metallic popped off the matte tiles and wallpaper so perfectly.

If you read the recap you know that this room was unfinished for months – with white walls and certainly didn’t feel pulled together. It took forever to choose the wallpaper mostly because there are so many that I love, but one day I just said “This. This is it“. The second we put up this Kelly Ventura wallpaper the room just SUNG. Then once we painted the window frame and ceiling a light green/gray (the bright white was just too white and looked unfinished), we accessorized and the room came together so quickly. I’m so so happy.

The pink and green combination is incredible. “Pink” doesn’t seem like the right word – it’s more of a deep rose. It’s just such a beautiful color (and it’s in the wallpaper). And guess what? Now that it’s wallpapered I love the subtleness of the no-grout look (a design move that I was once confident about, then felt was a mistake and now I’m happy again). You can absolutely see the tile color variation without the bathroom being too busy.
The polished nickel Rejuvenation plumbing fixtures (with a more antique vibe) just kill me. I love them so much and am so glad that we leaned into silver here – that shiny metal is so pretty against the matte of the pink and near the green wallpaper (much preferred over brushed nickel or polished chrome).
Look at that color variation in the tile. Just so pretty. It’s a custom color from Pratt + Larson (you can see all the custom colors we chose here) and I want to know the exact pigment in it so I can buy all the things in this perfect shade of pink. We opted for a 2×6 brick on the walls (Portland finish, so the edges are sharp, rough and look a little less uniform which your tile installer hates, but we love), a small hex on the floor, a 4×4 square for on top, and then pencil trim and sloped baseboard tile. A huge shout out to Stephyn from ARCIFORM for figuring this all out and placing the order. It’s far more work than it looks so thank you Stephyn!
The Vintage Articulating Mirror + Toothbrush Holder

I found all the vintage accessories at different architectural salvage stores in Portland. So while you, ahem, “can’t really see yourself in the mirror” says my MIL, I love the character they bring to this room (and there is a mirror on the opposite wall, don’t worry). We obviously couldn’t have a traditional vanity mirror due to the window, but since this is just for guests (and maybe Elliot when she’s older) it’s just fine.
The Fairview double sconce from Rejuvenation in polished nickel is just so pretty – all those details really shine (literally) in the super shiny silver finish. I can’t stop smiling. The details in the fixture feel historic, classic and so appropriate for this house.
Since my antique mirror isn’t as functional as my mother-in-law would like, I ordered this pretty (and simple) polished nickel mirror for the wall above the towel rod that is big, pretty, and does the job perfectly (and makes the room feel bigger, breaks up the wallpaper and reflects light around).
The whole room, with these pops of silver, feels so layered without being busy at all (silver is a quieter metallic than brass).

A huge shout out to Kaitlin Green, our wonderful photographer for shooting this tiny bathroom so beautifully – she did some magic getting this angle through the shower. I LOVE this shot (the nightstands aren’t there because we had to Photoshop out the shower door that she actually shot through that was totally obstructing the angle so we removed the nightstand before to make the editing easier). This angle makes me so happy – I love how the two rooms work so well together (the guest room isn’t done, but also great for now)
The vintage train rack shelf thing was from the house originally, in the kid’s bathroom. I was so happy that we kept it and that it found a permanent place in the home (not to mention being great storage for towels and guest cosmetic bags.

It’s a lot in a little bathroom, which I think is a move I want to employ more – just going for it in small spaces in the name of creating an experience and provoking an emotion. Lovely! I do have what may be an odd question about the toilet because I own the older version of toilet that has screw caps. This toilet looks grouted into place. What do you do when you ultimately have to replace the wax seal on the toilet?

Its not totally recommended and why we made our glass door much higher than standard. This is also a guest bath and gets use, although the kids are using it a couple times a month … I think with a good fan its FINE, but if you like to steam stuff up without a fan and like to splash all over your walls maybe not for you 🙂
The wallpaper behind the sink WILL get spots. Ask me how I know. There is a sealant you can put on the wallpaper though to protect it. I’ll do that next time.
Wow, the bathroom has really come together! I wasn’t on board with the original pink and white wallpaper you had considered, but I love the wallpaper you ended up with. It really compliments the tile. The whole space looks like a dream!

It’s over the kitchen/south. The mirror across from the window seems to really increase the amount of light. Or maybe it’s due to reflectors/editing? Or a combo of things.

Bathroom is really beautiful and wallpaper is gorgeous. What do you mean by no-grout look though? I tried to really zoom in and it looks like it is grouted.
Also, I was reading through some of the early farmhouse posts when the vision was for a clean Scandi mountain house aesthetic. I would love a post about how/when you made the change and the process you went through mentally to let go of a first fixed vision. I would find it useful and hopefully so will others.
She means she picked a grout that blends in with the tile so that you don’t see the grout as a separate design element.

My MIL does read, and I can’t imagine I said anything offensive (I think its more hilarious that I think its ok to put a mirror in a bathroom that you literally can’t see yourself in), so I hope that didn’t come off as snarky – i’m more making fun of myself for doing something so unfunctional. And re the design direction – it has just morphed the longer we’ve lived here, which I think is more influenced by the region and weather but then some choices have been accidentally ecclectic and then I loved them. So we’ll see how it turns out (this is the problem with loving every style, LOL) .
Not at all snarky and sorry if it sounded that way from me!! I just find it funny when we get those little insights of daily family interactions.

I am so glad you didn’t go with the pink wallpaper! The room definitely needed some contract and the green turned out very pretty. Also, I’m so glad your mother in law convinced you to put in a second mirror. I agree, that while the vintage one is cute, it is definitely not practical and I’d be super annoyed as a guest to not have a mirror I could see myself in. 🙂

Yup, I love it, all that warm silver and foggy green and rose/terracotta! I had a flashback moment to a childhood core memory – the stunning sterling-silver-and-green bathroom in Colleen Moore’s fairy tale castle dollhouse. (I loved dollhouses before I graduated to real houses.) It’s a combination that gleams in the most appealing way! Your rosy tile makes this one even better though 🙂
I grew up drooling over that dollhouse at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago so I share the same childhood memories! Exquisite and whimsical in every way.

I love this so much and the wallpaper is just gorgeous! Question – I’ve always been nervous to apply wallpaper in a bathroom that has a shower (we have wallpaper in our powder room though). What are your thoughts/tips on that?
Silver colored hardware (taps etc) is so much nicer than the trendy goldcolor that everyone has chosen for the past years. I never liked that trend tbh. Silver is not ‘blingy’ and much more timeless!
You left us on such a mean cliffhanger yesterday (lol) all I could do was reread the blog post where you’re holding that pretty pink rose wallpaper. You mentioned you were waiting for more samples from Kelly Ventura and included a link so after I followed that I spied this exact pattern (with so much of the rose color) and thought how lovely would that look with the tile?
Well it does look lovely! It’s less of a room and more of an outfit, in a way. The wallpaper reads like fabric, the matte tiles are like leather and the fixtures are jewelry. It’s just luxurious in a completely modern way while still feeling like a vintage farmhouse. Kudos!!

I also went with polished nickel fixtures, including a train rack, an articulating mirror, and that exact Rejuvenation mirror in a larger size. I used the same Kohler Memoirs toilet and SW Comfort Gray paint. And less than 30 minutes before I saw this post, I just cut a bunch of rosy Helebore blooms for a bouquet just like those in the photos! Makes me feel like I’m doing something right LOL!

Years ago I stayed on a sheep farm in a house in Ireland shared by the owners as a B&B. There was a bathroom that guests shared that reminds me so much of this
bathroom. Similar wallpaper and towel rack. The tile
was a dark color but I believe it was green. I fell in love
with the sheep, the border collies our hosts and that
wonderful house. As others have said…this is my favorite room in your house so far.

This reminds me of my grandma’s bathroom in the best way! The color combo, the vintage fixtures, the small-ish footprint…being in that beautiful bathroom would feel like a hug! ☺️ The funny thing is, I would never have created that space in my own home (I just can’t get on board with pink, although Jess’s curtains alllmost got me there), but I would still love this as a place to visit. I guess that makes it the perfect guest bathroom! That’s alway my biggest design challenge: discerning which designs are ones I truly want to live with, and which designs are ones I just want to flirt with once in a while!
